Two-Family Home – The Culture of (Timber) Construction in Rural Areas
Witry & Witry SA
Description
In contrast to new, land-intensive residential settlements built on “green fields”, this project demonstrates that densifying existing rural sprawls is an attractive alternative. Although the renewable materials used (timber, grass insulation, and clay) remain hidden, the building’s CO₂ balance is negative, and it produces more on-site energy than it consumes, setting a model for climate-neutral rural housing. The plaster façade blends harmoniously with the surroundings, adopting the local context. The interior is designed as a dialogue between tradition and modernity, in which materials that have proven themselves over centuries (wood and clay) are used in a contemporary context.
