Description
The cultural monument "Alt Sprëtzenhaus", a Wilhelminian-era fire station, was carefully converted into a daycare centre for approx. 145 children. The existing building underwent energy-efficient refurbishment (internal insulation, new windows, roof insulation), preserving its historic facade. A sustainable timber extension harmoniously integrates, connected by a glazed hall. The new build is open towards the courtyard, more enclosed towards the street. Ecology/energy were priorities: geothermal heating, green roofs, ecological materials. A car park was transformed into a playground; the fire station's history shapes the design. A vibrant place connecting heritage and sustainability emerged.
