Description

The listed Casino Tower in Ehnen has been reactivated without being touched. Rather than restoring, the project has inserted a second, autonomous tower within the existing shell. The monument has been carefully repaired using traditional techniques, while the new structure asserts a precise, contemporary language. Made of welded solid steel, it concentrates access, services and living space into a compact vertical system. The stair thickens into infrastructure, embedding all technical functions. What appears as an object becomes a reversible device: the historic envelope remains intact, while the programme operates independently within.

STATEMENT OF THE JURY
“The intervention in the historic building enhances the verticality of the structure by cleverly inserting a single element that connects the floors and becomes the vertical connector, furniture, installations’ duct and creating the conditions for sleeping and leisure. All details and decisions have been taken and delivered with very high quality, increasing the existing qualities of the original construction.”
