VEWA espace de création
Eric Marx
Description
The project reactivated a former industrial hall within Dudelange’s steel complex through a programme of participatory and resource-conscious renovation. Built in the 1930s and abandoned in 2006, the site was transformed from 2019 onwards by DKollektiv alongside municipal works. Traces of dedication from the voluntary contributions of participants remain visible throughout the building. The interior was gradually reshaped using reclaimed materials from Dudelange’s industrial wasteland. Today, VEWA serves as a space for artistic production, knowledge sharing and civic engagement, supporting collective life within the future ecological district NeiSchmelz.
STATEMENT OF THE JURY
“More than just an architectural object, what we are celebrating here is the collaborative, joyful, courageous, and hopeful process that embodies architecture’s social role. It is also a project that would have been perfectly at home in the sustainability category. The reuse and revitalization of an abandoned site, and the productive new life it has been given, strike us as the most environmentally friendly act.”
