Photographic mission of Christian Aschman (book)

Description

For over fifteen years, the Fonds Kirchberg has commissioned contemporary photographers to document the area’s urban evolution. In 2022–2023, Christian Aschman explored this ever-changing territory through more than fifty sessions across a year. Gaining access to rooftops, he captured striking bird’s-eye views defined by architectural lines, shifting landscapes and a near absence of people. His work reveals the scale, layered history and ongoing transformation of the Plateau. The project resulted in a book and an exhibition at LUCA (2023–2024), completed by a lecture.

STATEMENT OF THE JURY
“Beyond the artistic quality of the images and their documentary value, we appreciated the originality of the chosen perspective – that of the user, the observer – which shifts away from the usual focal point toward a more human and ultimately more accurate approach to the way we see and perceive our everyday environment.”
