MALT / LUCA
Fabeck Architectes
2001
Description
On the former bottling site of the Clausen brewery, the MALT project treats the existing structure as a resource to be activated rather than preserved. The industrial building becomes a shared space through minimal, strategic interventions and a new central circulation. Inserted mezzanines optimise use, integrating technical functions. The LUCA occupies the upper level with a flexible system of reused scaffolding elements, enabling adaptable, open and collective spatial configurations.
STATEMENT OF THE JURY
“A cultural venue dedicated to architecture and community life, the LUCA building is housed in a former beer bottling plant in Clausen. The spirit of the place has been preserved, and the spaces are connected by a large central circulation area. More than just a static space, it embodies a sense of potential.”
